Why should I take both wide and close-up photos?
Wide photos show where something is and how it relates to the scene; close photos show the detail itself.
Using both reduces ambiguity. A close-up of damage may be clear but impossible to place, while only a wide photo may hide the detail.
What matters
- Start with the whole scene
- Move closer for important details
- Repeat the wide view after work when comparing before and after
- Avoid taking so many near-identical images that the record becomes hard to review
