Parcel arrived damaged? What to keep before you throw anything away

A simple checklist of photos, packaging details and purchase information to keep when a parcel arrives damaged.

Before throwing away packaging, take clear photos of the parcel, the damage, the shipping label, the inside protection and the item itself. Keep the order confirmation and delivery details with the photos.

What to keep

  1. Photograph the parcel before opening it further if it is still safe to do so.
  2. Take wide and close photos of every damaged area.
  3. Keep a clear photo of the shipping label and tracking number.
  4. Photograph the internal packaging and protection.
  5. Photograph the item from several angles, including serial or model details when relevant.
  6. Keep the order confirmation, invoice and delivery messages.
