How do I document property damage?

A simple method for recording property damage with wide views, close details, dates and supporting files.

Start with wide photos that show where the damage is, then take closer photos of each affected area. Add notes and supporting files while the details are still fresh.

What to keep

  1. Wide view of the room, area or property section.
  2. Medium view showing the damaged item in context.
  3. Close views of the damage from useful angles.
  4. A short note describing what you noticed and when.
  5. Receipts, quotes, reports or messages connected to the event.
  6. Follow-up photos if the condition changes or repairs begin.
