What photos should I take for an insurance claim?

A general photo checklist for recording damage, context, affected items and supporting documents.

Take wide photos that show the overall situation and close photos that show the damage clearly. Keep receipts, model details, reports and related messages with those photos.

What to keep

  1. Wide photos of the affected room, area, vehicle or item.
  2. Close photos of each damaged part.
  3. Model, serial or identifying details where relevant.
  4. Photos showing surrounding context and cause where safely visible.
  5. Receipts, invoices or ownership documents you already have.
  6. Repair quotes, reports and insurer messages as they arrive.
