Before returning a rental car, what photos should I take?

A simple rental car return checklist covering exterior, interior, fuel or charge level and return context.

Before handing the car back, photograph all exterior sides, wheels, interior, dashboard, fuel or charge level and the place where the vehicle was returned.

What to keep

  1. Front, rear and both sides of the vehicle.
  2. Each wheel and any existing marks you want clearly recorded.
  3. Interior seats, dashboard and cargo area.
  4. Odometer and fuel or battery level.
  5. Return location or bay where relevant.
  6. Any return receipt, email or app confirmation.
